Huw Jones Partner at Nine Feet Tall is on cloud nine to be teaming up with the Welsh Rugby Players Association to deliver a series of business workshops as part of our player development programme.

Huw delivered the first of the workshops at the Llandarcy Academy of Sport to an enthusiastic audience of Osprey players with an interest in starting their own business post their rugby careers. The workshop focused on introductory business skills, insights for business start-ups and provided the opportunity for the players to consider skills for business success and the key factors of a start-up.

The players took part in a competitive team exercise to set up a business that would see them deliver pizza to our player development manager. The players had to develop their company vision, analyse the internal and external environments, draft financials for the setup and come up with a marketing plan for their business. This session was a true highlight, which saw team ‘Go Pizza’ led by Cai Griffiths innovative concept narrowly pipped by winners ‘Superior Pizza’ led by Canadian International Jeff Hassler, who demonstrated strong market research and financial planning.

“It was an invaluable workshop to help the players start to develop and understand business planning skills for use both now and in the future. The players got a lot out of the workshop and hugely enjoyed the interactive nature and I just wish the pizzas were actually real! The WRPA are very grateful for the support of Huw and Nine Feet Tall in the running of this new series of workshops” - Sarah Nightingale, Player Development Manager.

We are now looking forward to extending this out to our other regions.
