Sport Minds Conference
Conor Cusack, Clarke Carlisle and Andy Baddeley all spoke powerfully from a sportsman’s perspective of their struggles with mental health both in careers, retiring afterwards and also about facing injury and identity and the importance of support and education and reducing the stigma attached to this area.
The Mental health and wellbeing of our members is something that the WRPA take very seriously and will shortly be announcing a new initiative to grow this area of the player’s welfare both for players and support staff.
The WRPA are proud to be a signature on the Mental Health Charter for Sport and Recreation, launched by the Deputy Prime Minister in March, and help them to develop tools and processes to deliver better mental health through sport. The Charter already has 200 signatories, including all the major sports and largest governing bodies. More information about the charter can be found at http://www.sportandrecreation.org.uk/mental-health-charter
